We are glad you're interested in being an editor for our "Alumni Spotlight" interview series. We want diverse perspectives, a chorus of voices, and interesting people to shine.

I've been doing a few of the Alumni Spotlights and I'd like to share my process with you to give you an idea of what the "editor" volunteering looks like:

  1. Outreach! As you can see from the main Alumni Spotlight page, we do ask anyone to suggest someone to be spotlighted, but sometimes the editor has to do a little bit of legwork and personally reach out to a fellow alum.

  2. When a fellow Alum agrees to be interviewed, I give them a set of basic questions in a Google Doc that I author and share with them. (You'll notice my regular questions in every interview I've edited) .

  3. After the Alum sends me their responses through the Google Doc, we then "go back and forth" where I ask them to expand on an idea, give some other details, or ask for specific photos I think would help illustrate their interview.

  4. Then, I gather it all together and proof it, and send the Alum a final preview so they can approve - after all, it's about what they want to share with the world.

  5. Then, their Alumni Spotlight gets published on AANYAA.org!
