Magaly Vega-Lopez was born in Mexico City in 1986. She lives and works between NYC and CDMX. The artist holds a Master of Art + Education from NYU Steinhardt, class of 2019, and a Master of Fine Arts from the New York Academy of Art, class of 2016.

She has more than 50 group exhibitions that have been exhibited in the United States, Mexico, Uruguay, Argentina, Spain and Germany. She has been awarded artist residencies in Russia (2015), Argentina (2018), Switzerland (2019), Mexico (2021), Uruguay (2022), Germany (2023) and Iceland (2023).

She is a visual storyteller that uses counter-narratives to start a dialogue on the violent acts of reality and pursues possible social healings through art. She likes the idea of creating fictions that plays with the "real". Stories that we can relate to, between the familiar and the oddness, she plays—creating new worlds that seem familiar but unrecognizable at the same time. Using art as a medium to understand the world, engage with our community, and imagine a better future.
