Jamie Owens was born and raised in the Hudson Valley of upstate New York. She holds a BFA from SUNY New Paltz in Visual Arts with a double minor in Psychology, and Feminist Studies. She then obtained a MFA from the New York Academy of Art. Her multidisciplinary practice is concentrated within painting and sculpture.
Owens’ professional experience lies within the intersection of art education, and mental health. Jamie started teaching art during her undergraduate program working with adolescents for therapeutic benefits, trauma recovery, and empowerment. Following her BFA, she worked with a local non profit providing care and creative recreation for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. She then got the opportunity to work with patients of all ages within an inpatient psychiatric center. Owens taught young children during her time at the Academy. Following her Masters program, Jamie aims to travel, join artist residencies and continue teaching. Her long term goal is to establish a rural Creative Arts Center with a residency program for emerging artists.
