Helena’s most recent work is the expression of her personal memories, enhanced and corrupted by imagery from VII to IXX century European art. By recontextualizing classic imagery from art history into her personal narratives, she exposes the multi-layered and imperfect process of re-visiting memories, while letting the content belong not just to her past, but to a larger, collective history.
Helena studied figurative drawing, painting and sculpture at the Art Students League of New York, the Studio Escalier in France, the Angel Academy of Art in Florence, and the Grand Central Atelier in New York. A graduate of the New York Academy of Art, she is a recipient of various prizes and honours, including three grants from the Elizabeth Greenshields Foundation. She lives and work in Montreal and in the Laurentians region of Quebec.
