Antonia Barolini-Alvarez









Antonia Barolini- Alvarez is a painter and draftsperson working in watercolor, gouache, oil, marker, and colored pencil. She was born in NYC to a Brazilian father and Italian mother who both instilled a deep appreciation of nature in her. Her practice revolves around the concept of human instinct and intuition and its struggle for expression amidst the pressures of modern society. In 2016 she received her BA from Bard College where she majored in Studio Art. She later went on to earn her MFA from the New York Academy of Art in 2019. During her time at Bard she was twice awarded with the Bard Fund for Visual Learning Grant. While at the Academy she was awarded the Terra Foundation’s Giverny Summer Residency. She has shown in various group shows including “Mother and Child Group Show” (2019) at Sugarlift Gallery in New York City, “The Feminine Agenda Group Show” (2020) at Womenswork.art in Poughkeepsie, New York, the New York Academy of Art’s “Summer Exhibition” (2021, 2022) and “Power Dynamics” at Powerhouse Arts, Brooklyn (2024). Currently she teaches Painting I and Drawing III, the Figure at Hofstra University and Painting I, Painting III and Fine Arts Seminar at Pratt Institute.
